Baobab

Baobab is the common name of Adansonia digitata, boab, boaboa, tabaldi, bottle tree, upside-down tree, and monkey bread tree. “Tree of Life” it is one of the longest living trees on earth, some trees that have lived in almost 3,000 years. There are nine species. Six species live in the drier parts of Madagascar, two in mainland Africa, Arabia, one in Australia and three in India, Ranchi.

Traditionally, baobab leaves, bark, and seeds have been used to treat “almost any disease,” including malaria, tuberculosis, fever, microbial infections, diarrhea, anemia, toothache, and dysentery.

Oils extracted from the seeds of baobab are of immense use. The oil is extracted by first pounding the dry seeds then pressing. Oil extracted from the seeds have also been processed into oil meal and used as feedstuff in several regions of Africa. Baobab is a tree native to certain regions of Africa, Arabia, Australia and Madagascar.
